Distance Students

As distant students, you are only charged an OPSA membership fee ($40 per 1 EFTS or part of if less), and for your student ID card ($12.00). You are not charged the Student Services Levy that is paid by Dunedin and Central Otago students, but many of OPSA's services are of course still available to you:
Student ID-Cards
Distance students can get their OPSA student ID-card sent to them. Send a passport photo to OPSA, PO Box 5381, Dunedin 9058, or e-mail a digital photo to the Association Manager. Make sure you include your name (and ideally your student number), and the address you'd like the ID sent to. More information.
Advocacy & Help
Got problems? We can help. OPSA is your advocate and is here provide any help or information you require. We can be e-mailed or called toll-free from in New Zealand (0800-762-786 - xt 8332). More information.
Student Discounts
Check out the list of student discounts arranged by students' association which are available to you with your OPSA student ID-card.
Student Job Search
You can register online at www.sjs.co.nz and then contact the team by visiting your local SJS office or by calling 0800 SJS JOB.
Representation
OPSA has representatives on various Polytechnic boards and committees, and are a member of the national student body. If you have any concerns or views you wish conveyed as a distance student please do not hesitate to let OPSA know.
Second-hand Bookshop
OPSA runs a second-hand text-bookshop, and is more than happy to arrange sales and postage for distance students.
Handbooks & Wall-planners
If you require a copy of the latest OPSA student handbook-diary or wallplanner, you can request this from your course supervisor or directly from OPSA.
Gyro student magazine
You can access our free student magazine Gyro on line. You are also encouraged to contribute, e-mail the editors for more information.
Weekly Updates
Make sure you register your Otago Polytechnic webmail to receive weekly updates from OPSA which you will also need to do if wishing to access remote services of the Bill Robertson Library.
